About

With 10+ years of experience in vehicle system and software safety, Smart Safety can help ideate, develop and implement robust system and software safety framework. Smart Safety can assist to develop and implement functional safety management plans and processes that meet ISO 26262 standard with rigorous verification and validation processes to ensure the safety and reliability of vehicle software.

Palak Talwar

My career in functional safety started with FEV, North America, where I developed Safety Concept and defined Safety Requirements for clients in the hybrid propulsion space.

I then made the switch to big tech, working in  Lyft's autonomous L5 division. This role was involved navigating ambiguity given the autonomous safety space was, and in some aspects, still is, largely undefined. My work  involved thinking through questions around system architecture and top-level safety goals. More tactically, I worked on a wide range of projects including defining FSRs, TSRs, SSRs/HSRs, Verification and Validation plans, and performing Fault Tree Analysis, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) amongst other projects.

My current role is with Rivian where I'm leading a team of talented engineers across projects in defining software safety architecture for vehicle controls and testing requirements.

I've held different advisory roles with student groups who want to learn about Functional Safety. I was part of the advisory panel of the University of  Toronto student autonomous team. I have also been part of reviewing committees at SAE and MIT Ideas.
